If you want to know why a quarter of Berlin’s population actually came from Cölln or where the saying ‘Retourkutsche’ comes from, the Museum Ephraim-Palais is the place to go. The exhibition on the first and first floors of the museum also provides answers to many other questions about Berlin’s city history, including the history of the city itself.

The tour also highlights Berlin’s peculiarities and special features from its foundation to the present day. You will encounter Berlin’s oldest domestic pig skeleton, the ‘Old Fritz’ and the artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude. They all tell their story(s). In addition, the special photographic presentation ‘Berlin im Blick’ on the 3rd floor of the Museum Ephraim-Palais invites you to discover surprising perspectives on the city of today.

Please note:

This programme is aimed at an English-speaking audience.

Sunday at the Nikolai Quarter

With this day of action, the Stadtmuseum Berlin is continuing the popular Museum Sunday, which unfortunately cannot be continued in 2025 due to cost-cutting measures by the Berlin Senate. Instead, on the first Sunday of the month, we will be offering a special, wide-ranging programme for everyone at our three museums in the Nikolai Quarter – families in particular are cordially invited. So you can still look forward to great programmes at the Museum Ephraim-Palais, the Museum Nikolaikirche and the Museum Knoblauchhaus!

Even if admission can no longer be free for everyone, it will at least remain so for many: Our solidarity pricing model offers free admission for visitors with proof of discount, for example for children and young people under the age of 18, students, trainees, FSJ, FÖJ and BFD volunteers, severely disabled people, refugees, recipients of citizen’s allowance or ALG I and many others. All others only pay the museum entrance fee and can benefit from our discounted combi-ticket for all three museums. The extensive day of action programme is included in the price!
