Discover eight hundred years of history and culture! Berlin’s oldest preserved church building has characterised the Nikolai Quarter and the centre of Berlin since the Middle Ages: once a place of religion, now a museum of church, building and city history. The model of the medieval twin city of Berlin and Cölln is particularly interesting for families. Here, children and adults can find out together which buildings from back then still exist and what they look like today.
An audio guide for families leads you through the museum with exciting stories in German. Especially for children, there is a museum rally illustrated by Berlin cartoonist Mawil in German, English, Turkish, Polish and Arabic. A guided tour of the permanent exhibition ‘Berlin’s Middle’ also awaits you on the day of action. The special exhibition ‘Dekoloniale – what remains?!’ sheds light on Berlin’s entanglement with colonial history from various artistic perspectives.
The ‘Sunday at the Nikolai Quarter’
With this day of action, the Stadtmuseum Berlin is continuing the popular Museum Sunday, which unfortunately cannot be continued in 2025 due to cost-cutting measures by the Berlin Senate. Instead, on the first Sunday of the month, we will be offering a special, wide-ranging programme for everyone at our three museums in the Nikolai Quarter – families in particular are cordially invited. So you can still look forward to great programmes at the Museum Ephraim-Palais, the Museum Nikolaikirche and the Museum Knoblauchhaus!
Even if admission can no longer be free for everyone, it will at least remain so for many: Our solidarity pricing model offers free admission for visitors with proof of discount, for example for children and young people under the age of 18, students, trainees, FSJ, FÖJ and BFD volunteers, severely disabled people, refugees, recipients of citizen’s allowance or ALG I and many others. All others only pay the museum entrance fee and can benefit from our discounted combi-ticket for all three museums. The extensive day of action programme is included in the price!
