Deconstructing Maps

The WELTSTUDIO Special invites visitors to question maps and learn how to design their own. This BERLIN GLOBAL theme day is aimed at everyone, both young and old, who is interested in maps, enjoys designing them and is open to new perspectives.

Participants in the ‘Berliner Landkarten’ workshop at the WELTSTUDIO (BERLIN GLOBAL) draw or collage 3D pop-up maps under the guidance of Berlin illustrator Ulrike Haseloff.

On the occasion of the WELTSTUDIO special at BERLIN GLOBAL, a guided tour through the exhibitions “After Nature” and BERLIN GLOBAL uses select examples to shed light on how maps are used to create and consolidate power structures and world views.

In this workshop at the WELTSTUDIO at BERLIN GLOBAL, experts from the Maritiem Museum Rotterdam show how coastal profiles can be drawn and transformed into maps.

At two interactive stations in BERLIN GLOBAL’s WELTSTUDIO, interested parties have the opportunity to create their own maps based on their experiences and critical questions.

In BERLIN GLOBAL’s cosy lounge, Berlin-based actor Fabian von Herman will read from the children’s book Mit Freddi durch die Ozeane (Laurence King Verlag, 2021).

This day is all about children’s rights. What are the UN children’s rights? What do they protect against, what do they allow? And do all children have the same rights? In an exciting rally and in guided tours, families will get to the bottom of these questions.
