On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the Berlin Conference of 1884/85 (also known as the Congo Conference), the Dekoloniale Festival 2024 presents the musical theater piece Ecosystem by GROUP50:50.
If we save the rainforest, we save the climate! With this slogan, international environmental organizations have justified their interventions in equatorial forests for decades. In their new multimedia, transcontinental musical theater piece, GROUP50:50 tells the colonial history of deforestation and conservation in the Congo Basin and gives voice to previously unheard affected parties.
Following their widely acclaimed European performance, The Ghosts Are Returning, the group continues its collaborative work with artists from Congo, Germany, and Switzerland: a musical plea for a decolonial ecology.

GROUP50:50 is an artist collective comprised of members from the Congo, Switzerland, and Germany and a production structure with bases in Basel, Berlin, and Lubumbashi, dedicated to realizing and producing transnational artistic cooperation projects.
