The Waisenbrücke bridge

As part of the Allianz Neue Waisenbrücke, the Stadtmuseum Berlin is advocating for the construction of a new pedestrian and cycling bridge where the historic Waisenbrücke once stood. This bridge would make an important contribution to mobility transition and sustainable transport in Berlin.

Die alte Waisenbrücke

Ab Januar 1960 ließ die Ost-Berliner Stadtverwaltung die Waisenbrücke abreißen. Mit dem geschichtsreichen Bauwerk verschwand ein Flussübergang, der die Ufer der Spree jahrhundertelang verbunden hatte.

Neue Waisenbrücke

Seit Jahrzehnten fehlt mit der Waisenbrücke eine der ältesten Spree-Überquerungen Berlins. Bis heute klafft im Fuß- und Fahrrad-Verkehrsnetz des Stadtzentrums diese Lücke. Sie bis 2025 zu schließen fordert das Bündnis ALLIANZ NEUE WAISENBRÜCKE. Am symbolisch gewählten „Brückentag“ zwischen Christi Himmelfahrt und dem folgenden Wochenende fanden 2021 online und vor Ort vielfältige Aktionen statt, um auf die fehlende Waisenbrücke aufmerksam zu machen.
