Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Stadtmuseums Berlin
When it was founded in 1962, it set itself the goal of establishing a museum for Berlin history and culture in West Berlin, because after the Wall was built, the Märkisches Museum was only accessible with a pass to East Berlin. After the fall of the Wall and reunification, the association members advocated the merger of the two Berlin collections, which was accomplished with the establishment of the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin in 1995.
Bringing Berlin’s city history to life
To date, the association’s members have made around 400 acquisitions possible through their contributions and donations. In addition, the association supports the public relations work, the exhibitions and the events of the Stadtmuseum Berlin. It is a special concern of the association to inspire children and young people for the city history of Berlin and the offers of the museum. For this reason, it is involved in the museum’s outreach activities in a variety of ways.
